The project, Little Minds Strong Values (LMSV) was organized with the steering vision of rewiring the minds of children towards a better world. It was introduced by Mr.Rukshan Perera at the Rotary Club of Colombo Metropolitan where they hold their primary objective towards instilling ethics & values children at a young age through a medium they enjoy and build the foundation for a society of well mannered, civic-minded, caring Sri Lankan society that respects diversity in the next generation.
LMSV has continued to share video animated songs through WhatsApp requiring the parents to play the songs and the students to learn them while staying home and ensuring protection from the Covid 19 virus as well. This year marked a milestone for LMSV as they launched their website. LMSV did also organized a competition titled “Saaradharma Champion Competition” with the facilitation of the opportunity for the children to learn the LMSV songs and perform to win prizes every month and also be eligible for the Year-End-Finals that is planned to be telecasted on TV. LMSV shared the opportunity for the children to participate in the Solo Category competition without stepping out, or the Group Category if there are five or more children were performing together.
For the monthly competitions, the participants were required to firstly select and download the WhatsApp video of the particular song that they wish to learn with the lyrics along with the backing track out of the available twenty Sinhala and ten Tamil song videos on the LMSV from the website or they were asked to contact one of the coordinators. Secondly, the participants must record the child’s performance and share it with the LMSV. The yearend finals were organized for the very first time for the month of June in order to select the winning performance out of the semi-finalists who were selected from the monthly competitions by the renowned judge panel yet due to the prevailing medical condition of the country it was impossible, and the date is yet to be decided.
It is evident that the LMSV has fulfilled its national and societal role effectively with its ability to manage better relationships with the parents, principals, teachers, religious leaders, children’s organizations, and various other stakeholders. Also, more than forty values have been developed and promoted through the project. LMSV indeed has added a new color to the minds of all the participants on performing miracles towards a society of good mannered. Accordingly, LMSV has been successful during the last year with teaching the children Morals, Ethics and Values through video animated songs and shouldering building a New Sri Lanka.
