Rotaract Club of Excellence has been able to maintain a positive active membership count since the Charter year. The recent change to as a community-based club brought in a new challenge for the Club in getting new members. It was an important task to ensure that strong membership is available within the Club to have a successful year. On the other hand, the situation of the country was another challenge as we were unable to host physical events. The pandemic helped us to think in creative ways to do projects and come up with new initiatives. The challenge of hosting the membership drive virtually turned out to be positive. The virtual platform made it easier for us to attract larger crowds and invite our past members who live across borders. We had a number of trial runs before the live session to ensure the smooth flow in the project.
On the 20th of August, RAC Excellence went live on Zoom and had a prospective member count of over 40 along with the current board and general members of the Club. The session began with the host Rtr. Shamil Irshad welcoming everyone followed by the address of the Club President. We had invited Past Presidents and members to share their experience in Rotaract. Rtr. PP. Navoda Welipitiyage shared how the movement has helped him to develop personally, Rtr. Sandani explained benefit she gained from Rotaract and finally, Rtr. PP. Dilanka Kumarasinghe shared his thoughts on the fellowship aspect of Rotaract.
Next, we believed it was important to share the year plan with the new members to give them an understanding of what we organize as a Club. The Avenue Directors took upturns and presented the year plan followed by an exciting quiz game for the participants organized by our very own S Factors (Club Service Team). Finally, the Charter President of the Club, Rtr. PP Aqeel Rizni was able to join the session all the way from Switzerland to share his experience and encourage the prospective members. It was truly a successful membership drive and we were able to overturn the negative effect of the pandemic into a positive and was able to connect beyond boundaries.
If there is a will, there is always a way!
