‘’I fought & survived!’’ These words may not be familiar for anyone of you because one in a million will be able to say so.
The 14th of February is well known to be a day to celebrate love, romance, and devotion. It is usually celebrated by giving friends, family, and significant others flowers and gifts to express one’s love and affection to another. Breaking the conventional limits of this special calendar day, the Rotaract Club of Excellence once again for the 5th consecutive year decided to make this day a very special one for a greater number of loved ones within our community. And indeed, I would like to mention the Rotaract Club of Excellence found their significant other.
“From our Hearts to their Hearts 2021” took place on the 14th of February at the CCC House Maharagama. This project was organized to spend Valentine’s Day with the strong heroes fighting their battle against cancer at CCC House which is a transit home for outpatients and their caretakers. Due to the outbreak of Covid 19, the CCC house put up a notice on not allowing any outsiders to enter the premises. Due to the impact that our project has done over the years, and fact that the CCC House had officially reserved this date for the project; the management with a warm heart accepted our request on organizing the project but under health guidelines.
Not everyone sees the pain they go through, not everyone sees the hardship & not everyone sees the battle they fight. They are soldiers who fight for their own life. Some days they get better but some they are in their worst situation fighting for their survival. We can’t even think of the stress, the pain nor the depression they are going through. But we were able to witness it. The very minutes we had with them meant the world for them. As this project is done every year the project committee along with the support of the executive club members were able to pull it off in a major capacity. We are humbly honored to say we were able to donate items worth over Rs.300k.
Due to the pandemic though we were not able to visit every fighter the feedback which was given from them made every one of our hearts. We gained a new perspective of what love means on Valentine’s day and the importance of cherishing each moment and always being grateful for what you have because it’s a whole different battle that these little heroes are facing on the other side of life.
With that being said we would like to extend our gratitude to all the donors, the sponsors, especially the club members, and whoever contributed in every possible way.
